JURATE weaving manufactory and linen gallery is located in the Town Hall Square, in Vilnius Old town, a UNESCO world cultural heritage site. It is here that we are maintaining and further developing old Lithuanian weaving traditions. As a participant in the cultural project to preserve Lithuanian ethnic arts and crafts, we offer many opportunities to learn about flax and traditional weaving using wooden looms, while adding in our own new creative ideas.
We provide support to students of the Lithuanian Art Academy, the Vilnius Design College, and the Kaunas College Faculty of Arts taking their first steps in the art of weaving. We also offer workshops for children, senior citizens, visitors and guests of the city. The popularity of our workshops is also growing among brides-to-be who come here with their bridesmaids and other friends to hold their hen parties in an authentic historical atmosphere. They receive their first lessons in weaving on old looms and by the end of an entertaining and instructive evening they have their first hand-woven linen cloths for their dowry chests. The young women know that in former times their worth as brides would have been measured by their weaving skills, and we are delighted to be able to give new life to this old tradition.
